In The Dark Season 3

I art directed the third season of In The Dark, The New Yorker's investigative series recounting the killing of twenty civilians in Haditha, Iraq, and the subsequent failure to hold anyone accountable for the crime. The project included an interactive documentary, a nine episode podcast, and a digital landing page featuring additional written features. Illustrations by Emiliano Ponzi.

In The Dark: The Podcast

I commissioned unique artwork by Emiliano Ponzi for each of the nine episodes for Season 3.

I also redesigned the podcast tile and visual design system. I created a custom word mark for the series.

Cleared by Fire: The Documentary

I art directed and designed an interactive documentary that recounts the survivors’ and marines’ testimonies. The experience is interwoven with the memories of Khalid Jamal, who was fourteen at the time of the incident. For nearly twenty years, he has relentlessly sought answers about what happened to his father and uncles. You can experience the full story here.

Above is a sample of the testimonies, which were meticulously reconstructed from photographs, video, forensics, and interviews, then illustrated and rendered in 3D to highlight the differences in the accounts of the event.

I designed a landing page as a central promotional hub for all the content related to the third season of In The Dark.
